It's amazing how much fun you can have just cutting fabric.
Look, I made my own jelly roll ... well, more of a swiss roll,
Then I messed around a bit more and cut the fabrics into pieces and thinking about the layout ...

Much to my amusement (and delight), when my daughter came home from school she rushed straight up to the fabric and said 'mummy can I do some designing?' and set about making her own layout and making plans for quilts, pillowcases, pyjamas and much else besides for the boy. I think I have a seamstress in the making there. You should see her rifle through a remnants bin - that's my girl!

What a lovely mix of fabrics. Cutting used to be my least favourite part of sewing, but nowadays I find it kind of theraputic.
I struggle to cut anything!!!
Well done you, a braver lady than me that's for sure.
I pull fabric from my stash, I play about with colour combos, I think of projects, I put it back and look at it some more!!
One day I will start a quilt!! I have so many ideas, and can;t bear to cut the fabric incase i mess up!!
Ah well one day!!
Oh you clever thing- demonstrating the idea that it's much better to just dive in and set to. I love that about your girl too. She'll be wrestling you off your machine one day:)
I'm so impatient that my cutting out is always wonky!
Great fabric selection, I love the blue with the white and red spots.
Lovely mix of colours there.... like the strips. I love laying fabric out like that just to see whta the colours and patterns look like next to each other. As for the daughter thing - they soon get big enough to start suggesting layouts of their own :)
I so badly want to make a kitty quilt for my cat, but I don't even have time to go to the fabric store right now. I love those beautiful fabrics.
Oh, I love these fabric mix! They are so striking and fun :D
I find mixing and matching fabric stash very difficult. You have done it so well. How sweet is your daughter? I can imagine it would be super cute to sit next to each other and sew something together!
gorgeous colours xoxo
the fabrics look lovely together, i think i love the cutting out part more than quilting the thing!
I always get the jitters before I cut anything. I'm in the process of putting a quilt together for my baby daughter to include fabric from the duvet cover I had as a girl - and I can't seem to set to it with the scissors! I've just got to see how it will look with some other fabrics and that might embolden me:) Your quilt is lovely and I agree with French Knots - the Belle Seeds fabric looks great in there.
